PREAMBLE

The Foerderverein Berliner Schloss e.V. (the”Union for the Berlin Palace”) seeks support for the rebuildiing of the Berlin Palace. It was the essence of Berlin's center. It, together with the other famous edifices of the central area, which still exist today, created an incomparable ensemble  embodying the Berlin identity, which was described in the art history of the world as the” total art work of Berlin”. The Berliners themselves lovingly dubbed it the “Athens on the Spree.”

The Foerderverein has made the rehabilitation of this ensemble via the reintroduction of the Palace its main objective. It will serve as an exciting counterweight to the hugh modern city quarters surrounding the historic city center. To achieve this goal, the Foerderverein undertakes exhibitions of all kinds to enlighten the public about this issue. Thus, in 1993/94 it installed a full scale simulated Palace facade which became world renowned and which caused millions of people to recognize the meaning of this gigantic building for Berlin.

In accordance with the broader sense of this work, the Foederverein engages in a wide range publicity activies seeking to obtain support from the media and political circles. During the now almost 10 years of continuing work, the Foederverein has evolved from a small group of highly motivated activists to a nationwide organization. Through its influence, the “crazy” idea of a few has won over a majority of the Berlin population.

Following the Bundestag decision of July 4, 2002 for the rebuilding of the Palace facades and the Schlueterhof, the Foederverein has concentrated its efforts on soliciting donations for the realization of this project.
